Chain Reaction review in the SF Bay Guardian

The dramatic potentialities of physics are also a source of inspiration for local playwright Trevor Allen. Chain Reactions is a group of monologues arranged into patterns and fugues, with the framing device of a physicist lecturing on the interrelatedness of all things in the universe. Allen demonstrates this thesis by uniting monologues thematically (accidents, synchronicities, etc.) and then intercutting the speeches into fugues in which the speakers' concerns blend and dovetail into new patterns. The nicely crafted speeches are well delivered by a cast of four,with Helen Slayton-Hughes shining in a funny literary sexual confessional. This Black Box Theatre Company production has the distinction of being one of two BYOV (bring your own venue) options in this year's Fringe, performed in the tantalizing environment of the Academy of Sciences' Morrison Planetarium in Golden Gate Park. The mind boggles at the visual and kinetic possibilities...
